Indoor and canopy LED fixtures

Indoor and canopy LED fixtures

Alongside the outdoor and high-bay units, the range covers the interiors where fluorescent tubes were standard: suspended ceilings, corridors, offices, shop floors and fuel-station canopies. Here the design problem is not maximum output but fitting a grid, controlling glare and keeping the ceiling plane even.

Lay-in troffers

The 2×2 and 2×4 lay-in troffers drop into a T-bar ceiling in place of a fluorescent fitting — the 2×2 at around 42 watts. Because the LED array is planar, the luminous surface stays shallow, and the fixture does not need the depth a tube and ballast require.

Retrofit rather than replacement

Where the ceiling itself is to stay untouched, a fluorescent troffer retrofit of about 85 watts converts an existing housing instead of replacing it. Recessed can downlights of 12 to 26 watts cover the same logic for smaller apertures.

Canopy fixtures

The recessed Zon Focus 100 is the canopy unit for fuel-station forecourts, where the fitting sits flush in the soffit and has to survive weather, vibration and a wide temperature range. Elsco and 24-inch round retrofits in 80 and 100 W adapt existing canopy openings.

What distinguishes the fixtures

  • Long service life. Rated lamp life reaches up to 100,000 hours, with roughly 50,000 hours of continuous operation taken as the working figure. Passive cooling means no fans and no moving parts to fail.
  • Consistent output. There is no appreciable decline in output across the life of the diode, whereas many HID sources lose 60% or more of their initial output before they are replaced.
  • Lower energy use. In a correctly matched replacement, energy use falls by up to 75% against HID and about 50% against fluorescent lighting. The fixtures also run cooler, which reduces the cooling load of the building they sit in.
  • Light quality. Colour temperature around 5,000 K places the output close to the daylight spectrum, with no ultraviolet component.
  • Scotopically enhanced. Because scotopic output describes perceived brightness better than photopic lumens, a lower-wattage LED fixture can stand in for a far higher photopic-lumen source.
  • Safe, rugged, quiet. Low-voltage operation, no mercury or lead, no filament to break and no envelope to burst. The fixtures tolerate heat, cold and shock, and produce no flicker, no buzz and no infrared or ultraviolet radiation.
  • Environmental profile. No hazardous materials in manufacture, and large reductions in greenhouse gas emissions per fixture replaced.
